St James Grimsby

The Parish Church of St James is a vibrant Anglican Church in the heart of Grimsby.
It forms part of a team of churches, which includes the churches of St Hugh, St Martin and St. Mark.

Built around 1114, St. James' is the only Parish Church in the country with its own Choir School. Saint James' Choir School has provided choristers for Grimsby Parish Church since 1880. Choral services of the highest standard have been sung here since those early days, and the Church is rightly proud of its choral tradition.

The church was completely renovated in 1996 when a new stone floor with under-floor heating was laid and a permanent stone altar erected in the nave. The churchyard has been landscaped to provide a pleasant square around the Church. A more extensive discussion of the history of the church can be found by clicking here Church History.

The choristers, choral scholars and gentlemen of the choir under the direction of the Organist & Master of the Choristers, Adrian Roberts, sing 5 regular services every week during term time, with additional choral services on major feast days. On Sundays the choir sings at the Choral Eucharist and Evensong. On weekdays Evensong is sung on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The choir has made recordings and appeared on TV and radio in recent years.

The Grimsby Parish Gazette is published on the last Sunday of each month by the Grimsby Team Ministry, the Parish Gazette is available in church price 45p or by subscription. Contributions for each issue should be handed in to Saint James' House or sent via email no later than the 8th of the previous month.
